Prof. Nikolai Østgaard presented the background of the ASIM project to an audience of journalists at Media City Bergen on Friday, March 23rd. Included in his presentation were the history of the collaboration between UiB and DTU Denmark, the accidental discovery of terrestrial gamma-ray flashes in 1994, the actual building of components at UiB and what the expertise that has been gained during the development process would mean for both the University and Norway in the coming years. On the scientific side, Prof. Østgaard commented on the importance of understanding naturally occurring particle accelerators so close to the Earth.
